GS RIDES -- All Rides Form in the Departure Area on the East Side of the Teen Center -- See Rally Site Map

Overland Reservoir Loop --

Google Maps / Earth --  HERE (loads slowly)

Experience Grand Mesa at its finest.  Travel mostly on forest service access roads and country roads through some of the finest forests Colorado has to offer.  Enjoy a side trip to Overland Reservoir and possibly Vega State Park if time permits.  We'll have lunch at a small town in the heart of Grand Mesa and return partly on Grand Mesa Scenic and Historical Highway.  Friday 8:30am

Taylor Reservoir Loop -

Google Maps / Earth --  HERE (loads slowly)

This ride will be a combination of on and off road travel, with nothing more difficult than a Forest Service gravel road. The emphasis will be on the Geology, Geography, and early mining of Colorado.  Be prepared for an educational experience as your ride leader George Podsobinski, a retired Geologist, points out and explains the landscape that makes our State both unique and beautiful.  Saturday 8:30am

Black Canyon of the Gunnison's -- Ride Map HERE

The Black Canyon of the Gunnison's unique and spectacular landscape was formed slowly by the action of water and rock scouring down through hard Proterozoic crystalline rock.

No other canyon in North America combines the narrow opening, sheer walls, and startling depths offered by the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.   http://www.nps.gov/blca/

Grand Mesa --  Ride Map HERE

The Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests are a combination of separate National Forests located on the western slope of the Colorado Rockies. These three combined Forests cover 3,161,912 acres of public land in the central and southern Rocky Mountains, an area that lies south of the Colorado River and west of the Continental Divide with some of the most spectacular scenery in the Rockies.

The Forests vary in elevation from 5,800 feet above sea level in Roubideau Creek Canyon to 14,309 feet on Uncompahgre Peak.

The Forests include spectacular features like the 355 foot high Bridal Veil falls; the Grand Mesa with over 300 lakes, one of the world's largest flat top mountains; and Alpine Tunnel, once the highest railroad tunnel in North America.  http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/gmug/

Please be aware, Dirt Road conditions change with the seasons and infrequent maintenance.  What may have been easy last year can be impassible today, and vise versa.  So never ride outside your skill level and be prepared to turn around should conditions warrant.  Ride Safe!
