did a solo ride in 5/06 to devils tower/rushmore/crazy horse. took 85 to Cheyenne. ran out of gas in Lagrange-thank god for the reserve. gas station is about 1/2 mile off of 85 & is unmanned-no credit/debit card = no gas! stayed the night in Sundance-about 350 miles from DU/I-25 area. rained like hell Saturday night. Sunday was clear & sunny-dried bike off and parked it in the sun to really dry it off. about 25 miles or so from Sundance to the tower. quite an awesome sight. spent about 1 hr. there & then off to MT. about 40 miles from the tower to MT-had never been to MT, so what the hell! took a pic of the "welcome" sign; relieved myself & then off to Belle Fourche, SD. gased up there; lunch at Mcdonald's in Sturgis. found a closed-off entrance at Rushmore, so parked the bike & walked the trail for a great (and free) view of the "heads". quite spectacular. crazy horse is equally, if not more so spectacular as it much bigger than Rushmore. about 1 hr. there & then back on the connie home. total mile door to door was 992. not bad for a quick 2 day adventure. will most likely do it again in '09.
cheers!

Nice, Bill! A number of members went to the BMWMOA Rally at Gillette, WY this summer and I think all of them but me made it to the monument. I'll go back with Connie on the LT when it turns warm again. We did find some excellent roads in the Black Hills that kept us from needing to go to the Rapid City; Sturgis area. Great fun!
