Riverside, Wyoming Run July 11-12, 2009! 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Join us for this great ride! We haven't gone in a couple years and it's about time we did it again. The ride will leave from Red Rocks Grill in Morrison at 9:00am, come early for breakfast. We will make our way through Winter Park, Granby, Walden and into the Snowy Range in southern Wyoming to the town of Riverside. We should arrive a bit after Noon so you will have more time to make a day of it.

Also for you "GS" - Adventure riding types, There's lots of great forest roads in the area to explore. You can even make your way from Colorado to Riverside on them.

We will stay overnight at the Lazy Acres Campground there.
www.lazyacreswyo.com

The campground is located right on the Encampment River which is known for great Rainbow and Brown trout fishing.

http://www.wyomingfishing.net/fishtails/ft_encamp.htm

You can camp or they do have some motel rooms available but you need to call and reserve one. Saratoga Wyoming is about 18 miles north of Riverside with Hot Springs and great shopping and restaurants. In Riverside there is a general store, restaurant, bar within walking distance of the campground.
We've had some great campfires here in the past so that will probably be the evenings entertainment.

We'll get up Sunday morning and have breakfast in Riverside then have a beautiful ride home.

If you think you can make this great ride please RSVP to:

robertc9789@comcast.net or call 303.888.1698

I have to let the campground know how many of us to expect.
Should be fun! Can't wait!
See you there! Bob Coen

OK, It's Saturday June 27th and I have about 15 folks who have RSVP'd to go on the ride. It should be great fun and we're planning on a nice bon-fire for Saturday night at the campground. Siggi is going to be the "Fire-Meister". He's held the post before and done a great job.

As far as the ride goes it will be a loose group ride. Meaning no static formation and you can ride as fast or slow as is comfortable for you. We will start together and then do your thing however you like and we will stop and all meet up in Walden, CO for a break Gas/food and then procede to Riverside. I will ride at my usual moderate pace and any are welcome to stay with me. Safety for all involved is our main concern.
The campground usually gives us a real nice group area to set up in. If you would like a room call the campground and they will see what is still available in town for that evening. The rooms they have are taken already but there are a number of cute cabins in Riverside.
I'll keep you all posted for any news up until the ride date. Keep checking back here.

It's Monday June 29th. We have about 20 bikes/riders who have RSVP'd that they will be coming on the ride. We should have a good crowd . If your thinking of coming you should know that just about all the rooms in the area have been taken. So probably it's camping from here on in. Saratoga is about 18 miles north of Riverside and has lots of lodging so they may have some rooms available there. There is another motorcycle group from western Nebraska that is coming through there the same week-end and have made a number of reservations in the area.
The campground says that the camping fee should be about $8.50 per person. What a deal!
This is a good chance to dust off the gear your going to use in Paonia and see if everything works or if you need something.
I'm also going to see if we can have the campground have some wood available to us for a bonfire on Saturday evening.
As for gas there is a gas station in Riverside if you want to fill up before we leave Sunday morning. We will stop in Walden, CO on the way up Saturday if you want to gas up there too.

Stay tuned and check back for further updates as the ride date get closer.

Less than a week to go! I'm making my list for the trip now and really enjoying it. I really like the roads we'll be on. Except for a bit of I-70 to U.S. 40, we'll be on very scenic 2 lane roads. I just love the 50 miles from Walden, CO to Riverside, WY. Very quiet and scenic and curvy too.
The campground is holding plenty of space for us so if you have been thinking of going just let me know.
Rooms have been pretty well spoken for but call Lee Ann at the campground and she will see if she can get you one.
See you all Saturday morning July 11th. I'll be there early for breakfast too.
I think I'll have some maps and info to hand out to those who are going.
Again, This will be a loose group ride. I don't expect we will all stay together the whole trip. Just ride safely and enjoy yourself!

Well it's Tuesday July 7th. We've got about 15 folks camping and 5 more with rooms/cabins rented. So there will probably be about 20 of us riders there by the afternoon. Some folks are heading to Walden via Pouder Canyon and others are leaving earlier or later.

Our main group though will leave from Red Rocks Grill in Morrison at 9am Saturday July 11. Have been in contact with the campground to confirm our reservations and to have them get us some wood to have on hand for a nice fire on Saturday.

I'll lead the ride from Morrison and will stay at a moderate safe speed the whole way. Any are welcome to stay with me or if you like to go faster or slower do whatever feels comfortable for you.

It's going to be hot here in Denver this weekend with high's predicted to be in the mid to upper 90's. It should be a bit cooler in Riverside as the elevation there is 7142 Feet, Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!

Here's a webpage that tells a bit more
about Riverside, population 58!

I've had a few folk's inquire about reservations so let me make it clear. I'm keeping count of all who have RSVP and will let the campground know on Friday our number. So yes we have reservations made, for camping. When you get there we will pay individually for camping overnight. Should be around $8. to $10. per person. The Club is buying the wood for the fire on Saturday night. As for food you are on your own. There is a store and restaurant within walking distance of the campground.
We still have room for more campers so if your thinking of coming just let me know! If you need a room to stay in there in short supply but give Lee Ann a call at 307-327-5968 and see if she can help you find one in town.

I was thinking of this modification to the route from Walden to Riverside, adding 45 miles (with around 60 miles total off pavement) after lunch at WyColo Lodge near Foxpark:

OK we now have a couple riders doing a great off-pavement "adventure ride" on Saturday. Even if your not going to go all the way to Wyoming with us any are welcome to join them exploring great forest roads in Northern Colorado. Meet at the Red Rocks Grill Saturday morning July 11th and ask for Ken Off (if you don't know him). We will all leave at 9:00am and the off-road group will split off at Granby or Walden or Cowdrey or somewhere!

We've done this ride about 4 times over the years but this one was the best attended yet. We had about 25 bikes and riders and everyone had a great time . Some folks went up to Saratoga to swim after setting up and some just wanted to sit around the campground and relax. This is always just a laid-back low key event. See you there next year!
Check out pic's from this years ride in the "Club Photo" section on the left side of this page.
