We had 67 riders leave this morning for the long way to Crested Butte, CO. Eric Levy again did a fantastic job of putting the whole thing together. Thanks Eric!

Due to lack of participation by club members, the Colorado Classic is not going to be held as a BMWMCC event in 2010.

The Classic was popular and well attended, but not by club members. Hopefully Eric can use his excellent organizing experience with rides here and in California to hold other rides in 2010.

Eric has done a great job on each of the Classics and is to be commended highly for his work.

Sorry to see it go. Thanks for the work put into it in previous years.

Would it be possible to have a less formal ride that wouldn't require so much preparation and expense? I'd be willing to put together a route that starts and ends at BMW dealerships. People could handle their own certs with the Ironbutt Association. This would likely make the organization easier.

There could actually be 3 routes. A simple interstate one, a mountain route which would be very difficult and one in between so people can plan to stay out of the mountains at night.

I'd prefer to do it on a Saturday in July as I have a little tour planned in June.

We could have the routes sent out prior to the ride so people could plan their own gas stops to meet Ironbutt criteria.

With 3 routes, we could likely allow say 50 in each route. All we'd need is someone there in the morning to sign witness forms. I'd be willing to do that. If people sent in the form with their application, all we'd have to do is collect a card with their name on it and hand out the forms at the end.

I like your ideas, Gary, but...they all "require so much preparation and expense". It may not seem like it, but it does. Folks need a place to stay the night before, and a place to stay after the ride if they live far away. Eric did a great job of keeping the ride simple, but it took much of his time. There are liability issues, and so on.

Far from wanting to be a wet blanket on this...I'd like to see it done, but don't have the strength to do it. You would be welcome to ask the board members if there is the possibility. Contact the officers by email at "About BMWMCC" menu above.

Good luck on your 48/10 ride. I had a Honda Silverwing for a while. It had great power, but lousy economy; solid at 70+, but a handful in the parking lot because of its looooong wheel _base_. Your ride should be a ton of fun.
