Colorado Classic 1000 Question 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Greetings all,
I first found the Colorado Classic 1000 and you club site by visiting Iron But (IBA) site and was disappointed to see that only two IBA events are scheduled in 2008 in Colorado the “Colorado Classic 1000” and the “1000 in 24” and both are on the same weekend.
Is there any possibility of scheduling this event on another weekend making it possible to participate in both events?
I joined the club today in the hope of joining you on this and other rides even though my current bike was built in Japan, just looking for people who like to ride.
Thanks,
John

So, John, did you sign up for the Classic? I enjoyed meeting you at breakfast. Hope you've found some good rides.

From http://www.cofreewheelers.org/1000-in-24.html :
"Over the years we have standardized many aspects of the event. One such standard is the time of year the event is run. It's always held the third weekend in August."

Since the FreeWheelers have been running their very well attended 1000-in-24 since 1985, next year could the Colorado Classic be held sometime in the mid-June to mid-July time _frame_?

Well, well...during the driest and hottest summer on record, in the middle of August, the classic started this morning in a drizzle with the threat of very cold temps on the passes, but no snow; yet!

Most of the hardy souls that signed up showed up and rode out from the Holiday Inn in Lakewood. Their day would see magical scenery including the Snowy range of Wyoming, Baggs, Meeker, Gateway, and other excellent byways. AND, not to be forgotten, when they get to the hotel in Cripple Creek, they will share space with the Miss Hawaiian Tropic contest!

No matter how many other things are going on in your life, no matter how lousy you felt when you got up, no matter how cold and clammy the drizzle felt, when every rider buckled up their gear and started their motors, it was impossible not to feel left out and regret that you weren't going along on the ride. They are going to have one great day.

Congrats to Eric Levy for putting on a well managed event.

Randy: I tried to e-mail using your earth_link_.net address but was not successful.

The Colorado Classic date is being changed to June 20-21, 2009.

The date is firm, the ride leader wanted the change and it has been discussed and approved by our club President. It looks like your suggestion was well received.

The club is having a ride book meeting for planning and has rides available for if you have any desire to be a ride leader or come to the meeting if you have any suggestions for new rides.

Where: Foothills BMW
Time: 9:00
When: Saturday November 1, 2009

Thanks for the suggestion.
