My neighborhood has a gate that uses a garage door type remote to open. It has always been a bit awkward to fumble for my remote while approaching the gate. I wanted to have an easy to press button somewhere, but I really did not want to make a permanent alteration to the bike. The answer: AutoSwitch BMW Motorcycle Garage Remote Activator AS-5NG2. This device allows you to do a "double click" on the turn signal cancel button to activate your garage door remote. It does not come with a remote control, you must use your own. I had no problems following the instructions. You do need to open your remote and solder a couple wires in place on either side of the internal switch and then install it in a non-conspicious dry area on your bike. I had to try a few places to get the best range. I ended up putting the remote in a small ziplock bag and using strong tape to tape it to a clean portion of the front of the gas tank. Totally out of sight. I decided to also hardwire the remote to the bike electrical system since the remote used a 12v battery. The AutoSwitch unit is very small and is installed under my seat. It connects to the bikes electrical system and it has a single wire that connects to the bike's turn signal cancel button wire. Locating this wire under the seat was easy on my 1150RT. The instructions tell you exactly where it is and the it's color. The AutoSwitch also comes with a LED at the end of a long wire, presumably you could mount this on your dash, but that kind of defeats the purpose for me so I left this coil of wire under the seat. The operation is very simple, just press the turn signal cancel but twice in succession and the AutoSwitch will activate the remote. Piece of cake. I highly recommend it.
