Looking for tank bag suggestions 9 Months ago
I've never been a big fan of tank bags, but I'm planning an extended trip this summer and I think I could use the extra storage on my R1150RT. Are the BMW ones worth the extra money? Which ones have the best mounting system for my bike? Do they ever scratch the tank? All suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Hi Bob!
Looks like we have our forum here! I never had a tank bag until a few years ago and could not live without one now! I love my Chicane tank bag that was about 100 bucks and I bought the "Hydration system" thats made for it too for another$20. I think they are better and a lot cheaper than the BMW tank bags.
Just wax the tank before you put it on and it shouldn't scratch. I've seen many Chicane bags on RT's.

It's real easy for gassing up. Just 2 snap-buckles to undo. However I'm not sure if Chicane is around any more. Their site is gone.

Well the tank bags are really handy with the stuff you don't want to bury in the cases. They are easy to remove for gassing the bike. They can also be outfitted to carry equipment as in communications, music, phone when in range, maps ect. Just outfit it to match what you want..

I ended up buying a Marsee Carona tank bag. I haven't used it yet, but the mounting mechinism seems good. It uses a bracket that mounts on the gas tank. Not too big, so I think I'll like it. I only plan on using it on road trips.
